Saturday April 14th, 2007 – Metis Nation British Columbia and Red River Metis Society complete signing of the Metis Community Governance Charter Agreement
Hudson Hope, BC – On Saturday, April 14th, 2007 over thirty (30) Métis Community members from Red River Métis Society (RRMS) attended the signing ceremony for the Métis Community Governance Charter. Metis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) Northeast Regional Director Dan Pope and RRMS President Gary Martin signed the Charter.
RRMS first signed am MNBC Affiliation Agreement in 2004. The MNBC Affiliation Agreements were revised after a number of new Metis Nation Governance processes were implemented in 2005. This Charter signing with RRMS was completed after a number of months discussions between MNBC and Hudson Hope leaderships. RRMS spent the last year reorganizing their Society and working with MNBC leadership to ensure their Metis community structure would work within the Metis Nation. The RRMS Charter signing is the thirty-seventh Metis community association that has committed to ensuring Metis Nation governance processes will be followed for the Metis citizens located in Hudson Hope.
