Purpose of paper
The Métis Nation British Columbia (MNBC) position paper has been prepared to provide an overview regarding the current challenges and proposed MNBC strategy regarding the current delivery of Métis children and family services in British Columbia. This paper will provide the reader a review of the historical evolution of current Métis child and family services in British Columbia, present the objectives of the MNBC Five-Year Forecast, summarize discussions from Métis leadership that attended the Métis Nation Governing Assembly (MNGA) in 2006 and 2007, and provide insight regarding Métis community consultations held in 2007 and 2008.The MNBC position paper has been drafted recognizing that there are two critical issues that must be addressed to properly delivery Métis child and family services. MNBC feels the two critical considerations to effectively and successfully support the delivery of Métis child and family services in British Columbia must be include a consistent approach to Métis identification and Métis cultural support.
