Media Advisory – MNO Canoe Expedition starting 2200 km canoe trek in Ottawa
At 10:00 am on Tuesday, May 23, 2017, 12 young Métis Nation of Ontario (MNO) ambassadors from across the province will set out from Britannia Park and Beach in Ottawa on a 2200 kilometre canoe trek to Kenora. Following the historic fur trade routes of their voyageur ancestors the trip will take 100 days and will take them through Ontario’s Métis communities.
The MNO Canoe Expedition members have been receiving extensive training at Fort William Historic Park prior to beginning their epic journey. Training included both practical skills and safety for undertaking this adventure of a lifetime as well as being educated about Métis history and culture in Ontario so they can provide presentations and workshops to communities along their route.
The MNO Canoe Expedition will also provide experiential learning opportunities for all its members that will help them develop leadership and employability skills that they will use to build their future careers.
All MNO citizens and friends of the Métis are encouraged to join the MNO Canoe Expedition members on Tuesday morning to be part of their send off.
If you plan on attending please RSVP to Melissa St. Amit at firstname.lastname@example.org
