Morning Brief: Negotiations continue over wage subsidy bill – iPolitics

Negotiations over a bill to retool the federal wage subsidy for businesses continue as of Tuesday night.

Government House Leader Pablo Rodriguez said federal parties are still in discussion on reaching an agreement and recalling the House of Commons as soon as possible.

“Let’s collaborate and move the wage subsidy bill forward,” he tweeted.

However, Conservative Leader Andrew Scheer released a statement shortly after that said the Tories are prepared to return to Ottawa but wanted more opportunities for parliamentary scrutiny.

“The Team Canada approach to this pandemic must include Opposition parties,” the statement said. “It must also include scrutiny and accountability. We expect that the government will agree to basic parliamentary oversight and increased transparency measures going forward.”
