NADF: FREE Bookkeeping Workshop – Call for Applications

Nishnawbe Aski Development Fund (NADF) has developed workshops in relation to bookkeeping and will be providing these workshops to eligible participants for FREE.  This workshop will cover receivables, payables, and the basics of bookkeeping such as accounting terms.  Participants will learn how to maintain the books of a business utilizing Sage 50 accounting software in a hands-on classroom setting.

NADF is now accepting applications for the bookkeeping workshop.  The deadline to apply is September 27th, 2017.  Available seats are a maximum of 10, therefore, the first 10 eligible applications will be accepted for the workshop.  If required, successful applicants will be responsible to cover their own meal, transportation, and accommodation costs for this two (2) day workshop. The Bookkeeping workshop is FREE.

WORKSHOP OVERVIEW

October 4, 2017 (9:15 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.)

October 5, 2017 (9:15 a.m. – 4:15 p.m.)

Over the two (2) day period the workshop covers the following:

  • The Basics of Bookkeeping
  • Sage 50 Receivables Module – Hands-on training
  • Sage 50 Payables Module – Hands-on training

The basics of bookkeeping is an overview to help the participants increase their knowledge of bookkeeping terms and procedures.

Sage 50 accounting software is utilized to train the participants on the selected module for the workshop.  For this workshop Receivables (Sales) and Payables (Expenses) will be covered. You will learn how to display reports, enter various transactions, and create customer invoices, enter vendor invoices, record receipts of payments and add customers & vendors into the system.

WHO CAN APPLY

Qualifying participants will be Aboriginal owned businesses and organizations who are located within NADF’s catchment area, i.e. Treaties 5, 9, 3, and Robinson Superior.  As long as the business or organizations is Aboriginal owned the person delegated to be trained can be any person who is responsible for bookkeeping.

APPLICATION CRITERIA

Applicants are required to submit the following along with the completed application:

  1. Proof that 51% of the business is owned by Aboriginal people, i.e. proof of Aboriginal identity (Status
    Card), articles of incorporation and share register, a BCR supporting the applicant.
  2. Examples of proof of business existence will include any one of the following or other similar documentation:
    1. A Master Business License;
    2. Articles of Incorporation;
    3. Bank Statement; and
    4. HST registration number.
