NAN supports Families, Calls for Action on Unsloved MMIWG Cases during Memory Walk

THUNDER BAY, ON: Nishnawbe Aski Nation (NAN) Deputy Grand Chief Anna Betty Achneepineskum expressed support for families of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls and called for increased efforts on unsolved cases during the 13th Annual Full Moon Memory Walk in Thunder Bay this afternoon:

“Far too many of our women and girls are missing or have been murdered, and too many of these cases remain unsolved. Each of these women was loved, and each of us has a responsibility to prevent this. Missing women and girls isn’t just an issue for Indigenous families – this is a nation-wide issue. Whether we are leaders, mothers, grandparents, sisters or daughters, we all need to commit to addressing this. We need to work together as a community to prevent losing another life, and I call on all of the agencies and authorities responsible to help prevent these disappearances and solve these unsolved cases. I thank everyone for walking with us today, and we will continue to support all of the families who have lost loved ones.”

First held in 2005, the Full Moon Memory Walk honours the lives of Indigenous women and girls who have gone missing or been murdered.
