National Aboriginal Day Celebrations – University of Manitoba

The University of Manitoba and HSC will celebrate National Aboriginal Day on Thursday, June 21, 2012 from 8:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. with a feast, entertainment, artists and crafters, and activities in Brodie Centre Atrium, 727 McDermot Avenue, at the University of Manitoba Bannatyne Campus.

A teepee will be set up all day and elders will be on site. Everyone is welcome to attend.The day’s schedule of events includes:

Pipe ceremony 8:00-9:00 a.m.

Breakfast 9:00-10:30 a.m.

Teepee & Traditional Teachings 9:00 a.m., Noon, 2:00 p.m.

White Horse Drum Group/Singers/Dancers 10:00-11:00 a.m.

Niji Mahkwa Traditional Singers 11:00 -11:20 a.m.

Greetings, Dr. Catherine Cook, Associate Dean, First Nations, Métis & Inuit Health, Faculty of Medicine 11:20 -11:25 a.m.

William Whyte School dance group 11:35 a.m.-Noon

Feast Noon-1:30 p.m.

Fiddlers, Inuit Drums, Throat Singing 12:15-2:00 p.m.
