Perry Bellegarde.., of the Cree Nation.. and from Little Black Bear First Nation, in Saskatchewan Canada, “Turtle Island”..; including various interviews, some of the ceremony in his second re-election, as National Chief ..and selections from a few other public statements. , old & new.

Perry Bellegarde SOMis a Canadian First Nations advocate and politician. who was first elected as National Chief of the Assembly of First Nations, on December 10th 2014.

A member of the Little Black Bear First Nation, in Saskatchewan,
he has served as Chief of Little Black Bear, as Chief of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and as the Saskatchewan Regional Chief of the Assembly of First Nations.

After Chief Atleo’s resignation, in 2014, Chief Bellegarde ran in the 2014 election and won.., on the first ballot. After his election, he has identified one of his early priorities in the position as lobbying for the federal government to establish a judicial inquiry into “missing and murdered indigenous women” an issue which has dominated First Nations activism in the 2010’s.

On August 3rd 2018, Chief Bellegarde successfully advocated..
to the newly elected Liberal government, to have the “Missing & Murdered Indigenous Women Inquiry” established.

On July 25th of 2018, Chief Bellegarde was re-elected to a second term as National Chief in the Assembly of First Nations’ 2018 leadership election.
