Native-schools payments backlogged in Ottawa

Ottawa — A swamped federal government is scrambling to clear a huge backlog of applications that has delayed payment of native schools compensation claims.

Since Sept. 19, more than 71,000 people who attended Indian residential schools have applied for their share of a $2-billion settlement program.
