Native Way Training Services ™, creating solutions for Aboriginal communities

by NationTalk on October 26, 2011558 Views

NEWS RELEASE
Ottawa, October 25th, 2011
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Native Way Training Services ™, creating solutions for Aboriginal communities: In support of the various government initiatives, we are creating a different type of health and fitness business to fulfill the needs that existing organizations have yet to meet. Our goal is to build capacity in Aboriginal communities by certifying and training health and fitness professionals at a National Training Centre using traditional Aboriginal principles and offering a holistic approach to creating a healthy and balanced lifestyle. This new social enterprise addresses some of the many health and social issues faced by urban and on-reserve Aboriginal populations. With diabetes, obesity and suicide rates 3 to 8 times higher compared to non-Aboriginal people, an immediate intervention is needed to help reduce these statistics.

Once trained, candidates will experience further training through internships running our various template programs, in the hopes that they can return to their communities and implement the programs and teachings they will experience during their practicums at the Centre. The graduates of this Centre will be able to integrate corrective and preventative measures to all types of individuals and families in their community.

We have currently entered our business in the Aviva Community Fund contest in the hopes of qualifying for $150 000 in grants. Winners are determined by the number of votes they receive. Round one of voting ended on October 19th at which time Aviva selected the top 30 semi-finalists. Round two of voting will begin on Monday October 24th 2011 and end on November 9th. Another thirty projects with the highest votes will join the existing semi-finalists. This will be repeated in Round three from Nov. 14th to November 30th. Semi –Finals voting will happen from December 5th to December 16th. The last official winners will be announced on January 25th 2011. We are calling out to all Aboriginal people to help us get the funding to create jobs and address health issues in their communities. Once registered, supporters can vote every day “Serving All Nations to Inspire Action. One Person, One Nation, One Sky.” Info. nwts[at]gmail.com+1 613 818-2196 / www.nativewaytrainingservices.com until the closing of the round, and then begin again in the next round. We need your help to get these votes. Please help us get the visibility needed to qualify for funding.

NWTS will be based in Ottawa however we are currently in discussion to partner with a National Organization with Centers across Canada. We are planning the official launch in Sept. 2012.
