New initiative links First Nations School students with their roots –

The First Nations School of Toronto’s focus on Aboriginal culture has gotten a lot more interactive thanks to a new initiative that came about thanks to a partnership between the Toronto District School Board, TakingITGlobal and Cisco Canada.

The school launched Connected North, a new real-time online connection between the school and remote First Nations communities on Friday, May 12, with technology donated by Cisco. The partnership will allow for collaborative learning and will link the First Nations School’s students directly with their roots.

Cisco has rolled out similar initiatives at other schools, but with the First Nations School now in full swing, Connected North made for an ideal fit. Students at the school will now be able to connect directly in real time with elders, Indigenous artists and other First Nations schools across Canada and perhaps even beyond.
