Community event set to take place at Virgil Sports Park

It will be the biggest event hosted by the Niagara Regional Native Centre in conjunction with the Fort Erie Friendship Centre, celebrating the heritage of Indigenous Peoples.

In Canada, June 21 is known as National Indigenous Peoples Day, which acknowledges the cultures and contributions of the First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples of Canada.

The event, hosted by the two centres, is funded through the Celebrate Canada Grant with Canadian Heritage.

Throughout the day there will be entertainment by Indigenous celebrities, activities for kids, workshops, fireworks and much more. Beginning at 3 p.m. the event will be MC’d by Howie Miller, a comedian from Edmonton and First Nation descendant of Cree. The opening will include a performance from a Niagara children’s choir, the Little Red Hawks.
