Nishnawbe-Aski Police Assist with Junior Ranger Camp in Bearskin Lake

(Bearskin Lake, ON) OnMarch 1 to March 4, 2012, the community of Bearskin Lake was home to the Annual Northwest Explorer Junior Canadian Ranger Camp. Youth from the First Nation communities of Bearskin Lake, Big Trout Lake and Muskrat Dam were in attendance alongside Canadian Ranger escorts for the event.

Canadian Forces Junior Rangers Instructors Sgt. Mark KENDALL and Sgt. Lonnie NAUGHTON were assisted by Michikan Lake School Principal and Canadian Ranger Amanda MCLEAN, local Nurse Bonnie BYRNE along with Nishnawbe-Aski Police Constables SKRZYPEK and BEZLEY from the Bearskin Lake Detachment and Constables ROSS and CUTTING from the Poplar Hill Detachment.Techniques such as fishing, fire-making, cooking and snow shoeing were taught to the youth. Snowmobiling, air-rifle target marksmanship shooting and obstacle courses were also a part of the event. The final day was reserved for clean-up and an open skate at the local arena.

Bearskin Lake First Nation is located approximately 610 kilometres northwest of Thunder Bay.
