North Caribou Lake First Nation Chief & Council Press Statement

While we may be in shock, the North Caribou Lake First Nation Chief & Council and its membership are concerned and intensely question the Coroner’s finding in the death of Tammy Keeash, while in care of Children Services in Thunder Bay.

Tammy Keeash lived in Weagamow Lake First Nation, a community surrounded with water and a member of Junior Canadian Ranger, the unit that are trained to survive harsh environmental conditions, thereby causing us to be skeptical to hear how she died where she was found.

However, there may be other factors that contributed into her passing, nevertheless, there will be questions that will be surfacing.

As result of Tammy’s death, we learn and need to remind ourselves that there are young people attending high schools in urban centers, we plea that these young people are taken care by those who we entrust them to.

Respectfully,

Chief & Council
North Caribou Lake First Nation
