Services will be provided to seven First Nations communities and the urban Indigenous population of Sault Ste. Marie, representing about 15,500 First Nation and Métis people.
Increased access to culturally appropriate care for Indigenous people in the region is aligned with the North East LHIN”s Aboriginal Health Care Reconciliation Action Plan and The Journey Together: Ontario’s Commitment to Reconciliation with Indigenous Peoples.
The North East LHIN is working with its partners to implement the 25 calls to action in the Health Reconciliation Action Plan, including enhancing access to traditional healing practices and the provision of culturally respectful health care services for Indigenous people in the North East region.
The LHIN is also committed to a thorough evaluation of the PAMHAR program to determine the viability of rolling it out to other communities throughout Northeastern Ontario to improve access to traditional health and healing services for Indigenous people in the region.
