Northwestel Seeks Artwork Celebrating Arctic Winter Games

Northern artists are being invited to take a unique approach in the 2008 directory cover art competition.

As a sponsor of the 2008 Arctic Winter Games in Yellowknife, Northwestel is inviting artists to submit works that depict the theme of “Celebrating Arctic Winter Games.”Northwestel is seeking works of art that will remind northerners of the unique role played by the Arctic Winter Games in northern life. Artists may submit works that focus on a variety of Arctic Winter Games topics, including sport in general, traditional Dene and Inuit games and sports, and northern arts and culture. The work may reflect the Games experience and what it has meant to individuals, communities or teams. The perspective of the work could be that of an athlete or participant, coach, official, volunteer, organizer or audience member, from any area of the North.

Artists have until Friday, September 21st to get their entries in to Northwestel.

Northwestel publishes a separate directory for each of the main regions in its operating area, which are Nunavut, the Northwest Territories and Yukon/Northern British Columbia. Three pieces of artwork will be selected for use on the three 2008-2009 telephone directories.

Each of the three selected entrants will be awarded $1500.00. The winning entries will be added to Northwestel’s corporate art collection.
