A Nunavut MLA accused territorial Environment Minister Patterk Netser of turning his back on Inuit elders and hunters, in slashing the polar bear hunt quota in western Hudson Bay by nearly one-third.
Netser announced the cut in the quota in September, out of renewed concerns that the bear population in that area is in trouble. But Netser’s decision came despite Inuit claims that the polar bear numbers are rising there.
