Nurses welcome campaign to butt out – Nursing Careers Allied Health
Nurses have backed the Federal Government’s tough new anti-smoking advertising campaign targeting pregnant women and Indigenous communities.
Australian Nursing Federation federal secretary Lee Thomas said nurses often saw the devastating results of smoking, with smoking-related diseases killing about 15,000 Australians every year – the equivalent of about 40 preventable deaths a day.
“The ANF’s members, nurses, midwives and assistants in nursing witness the tragic consequences of smoking on victims and their families across Australia’s hospital and aged care systems,” Ms Thomas said in a statement.
