Ottawa, ON (March 19, 2007) – On Wednesday, March 21st, the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC) will assist in hosting an important news conference on the steps of Queens Bench Courthouse in Regina. The aim is to draw attention to a disturbing case involving Gratia Bunnie of the Sakimay First Nations – 150 kilometers east of Regina. The band council is trying to force her from her Matrimonial Home saying “she is no longer welcome there.” This comes after the passing of her husband, the late Chief, Senator Samuel Bunnie.

Gratia’s story will repulse you and it is a clear example why NWAC believes we need the laws to be changed when it comes to Matrimonial Real Property Rights for Aboriginal women living on reserve.

Please join us for this important news conference.

Note: in the event the weather does not cooperate, we will move the news conference to the Exchange – main floor 2431 8th Ave.
