YELLOWKNIFE, NT – Students from six Northwest Territories schools collected 4663 directories for recycling as part of the 2017 Northwestel Directory Recycling Program.
For their collection efforts, students were awarded $3,050 by Northwestel to use towards class field trips, school supplies, extra-curricular activities and other school events. At Range Lake North School, over 2000 directories were exchanged today for a $750 reward that will go toward the purchase of new recycling containers for the school.
“Every year, the effort demonstrated by these students continues to impress everyone,” said Northwestel Vice President of Business Markets Paul Gillard. “By diverting these directories from the landfill, these students are showing their commitment to building a greener tomorrow, and Northwestel is proud to celebrate and reward their success.”
The Northwestel Directory Recycling Program is held annually to invest in Northern communities while also helping meet and promote environmentally-friendly standards across the North. Since 2002, more than 175,000 directories have been collected and recycled by students across the Yukon, Northern BC, Iqaluit and the Northwest Territories.
