Bantam-age players hosted hosted northern Ontario team in July

The Attawapiskat First Nations flag is flying high at Oakville Town Hall this week.

This is to recognize the local Hockey Cares team which is traveling north to the remote Ontario community located on James Bay.

The 1,070 kilometre journey to Attawapiskat this month is for the second part of a hockey exchange.

In July, Oakville hosted 15 bantam-aged players from Attawapiskat for the first part of this grassroots cultural initiative.

“I’m really looking forward to seeing friends I made, experiencing Cree culture and of course playing hockey,” said 15-year-old Blake Cooper, one of the Oakville Hockey Cares players taking part Nov. 8-12.
