Officers recall having rifle ‘scoping’ them – Brandon Sun

An RCMP officer recalled in front of a jury the day he was dispatched to Sioux Valley Dakota First Nation after a man threatened to shoot his neighbour.

Arriving before his fellow officers, Const. Les Robillard told the Brandon Court of Queen’s Bench on Tuesday it seemed like a good opportunity to survey the scene, so he peered through his binoculars toward the area in question.

What he saw was the barrel of a long rifle staring back at him.

“(The rifle) was pointed directly at me, or at us,” Robillard said, noting additional officers had pulled up in their police cruiser behind him while he was checking out the scene.

“It was quite alarming, actually, when I saw it I let everyone know right away we needed to back up.”
