OGAMAS Brandon Aboriginal Literary Festival Set For Oct 15-17

BRANDON, MB – Brandon University is delighted to announce the second bi-annual OGAMAS Aboriginal Literary Festival, to take place at Brandon University on the weekend of October 15-17, 2009. The Festival will again feature readings, performances and panel discussions by many of Canada’s best Aboriginal authors.Opening Night Ceremonies take place in the Lorne Watson Hall at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday evening with local Aboriginal music and dance entertainment. Also included with be the much anticipated poetry reading and dialogue, Native Erotica, featuring the irrepressible Gregory Scofield, Joanne Arnott, Drew Hayden Taylor, Sharron Proulx-Turner and Richard Van Camp.

Friday and Saturday will have readings and dialogues by Canada’s most prestigious Aboriginal authors. On Saturday evening, the Social and Gala Reading with the Billy Joe Green Band will be held in the BU Dining Room, beginning at 9:00 p.m.

Admission to all events at the Festival will be free, except the Social and Gala Reading on Saturday evening. Admission to this event will be $10. Tickets will be available at the BU Campus Bookstore, the Marquis Project, Ten Thousand Villages and Pennywise Books, or at the door.

With a third of the student population being Aboriginal, Brandon University has strong Aboriginal programs in Native Studies, Visual Arts, Education, Counselling, and teacher training. BU is proud to be the home of Canada’s premiere national Aboriginal Literary Festival.
