On Stage: Agokwe
BY Rea McNamara September 29, 2008
It’s appropriate that the trickster — an archetype that has long blurred the lines of gender and sexuality — anchors this tale of star-crossed love between two teenage rez boys. As one of six characters in Waawaate Fobister’s one-man show, the part-raven, part-campy emcee Nanabush gleefully cavorts on stage and lures the audience into the two-spirited perspective, taking this personal monologue into biomythographical (a term coined by poet Audre Lorde) territory.
