Only woman elected to Nunavut’s legislative assembly wins premier’s post

Nunavut’s former languages commissioner, Eva Aariak, pictured, was named Premier yesterday, beating two-term premier Paul Okalik. She was the only woman elected to the legislative assembly. After a five-year run as languages commissioner from 1999 to 2004,Ms. Aariak was a teacher and then later operated an arts and crafts store in Iqaluit.
