Ontario COVID-19 cases soar as testing backlog continues to come down – Toronto Star
March 30, 2020
The number of Ontarians with confirmed cases of COVID-19 has soared by 351 cases or almost 26 per cent over night as the testing backlog continues to come down.
New figures from the Ministry of Health released Monday morning show the provincial tally of cases has now reached 1,706 since the first case was reported nine weeks ago.
Another big change in the latest statistics is the number of cases that have been cleared, which had been stuck at eight for days.
The number is now 431 cases — or 25 per cent of the provincial total — now resolved under new criteria that includes those no longer hospitalized or who are feeling well and are 14 days past the onset of symptoms.
Previously, to be considered resolved, a case had to register two negative tests for the new coronavirus more than 24 hours apart.
