Ontario Provincial Police Committed To Haldimand County Residents
HALDIMAND COUNTY, ON, April 15 – The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) wish to make it unmistakably clear that they remain committed to keeping the peace and upholding law and order in Caledonia and the surrounding area.
“The members of the OPP have worked tirelessly to maintain the security of Haldimand County residents and we will continue to ensure public safety,” Commissioner Fantino states.
Recent correspondence between the Commissioner and County Council became the target of media reports that the OPP were withdrawing services from Haldimand County. Fantino says, “Contrary to erroneous reports, the OPP will continue to have a strong presence in Haldimand County and Caledonia, as is our current mandate.” The OPP will continue to address security issues around forthcoming events appropriately. “Agitators or others intent on creating provocation and conflict in the community will NOT be tolerated.” Their actions are deplorable, self serving and dangerous. I’m appalled that they would take advantage of Haldimand County citizens to further their personal agendas” says Fantino. “Those who compromise public and officer safety will be held accountable for their actions.”
The OPP will continue to work with all stakeholders, including Haldimand Council, in our continued efforts to maintain safety for everyone affected by this land claim issue.
