A new Pic River bridge just east of Marathon could be open later this month following final inspections on its construction, says the Ministry of Transportation.
A regional MTO spokeswoman said Wednesday that inspections on the Highway 17 bridge are to be carried out “in a week or two.”
Motorists using a narrow, temporary crossing for the past two year have been wondering about the status of the new permanent bridge, since it appears to be complete.
Construction on the $10.3-million structure began in 2014 by OHL Construction Canada, an international company that has a Toronto–area office.
