Place au DOC! – Les soirées ONF

by NationTalk on July 11, 2012684 Views

Montreal, July 10, 2012 – Documentary film will soon be contributing to Montreal’s lively cultural nightlife. From July 17 to August 8, the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), in association with the Partenariat du Quartier des Spectacles, is presenting Place au DOC! – Les soirées ONF, featuring eight striking new documentaries, as part of Place Émilie-Gamelin’s summer program. Eight French screenings will be presented free of charge on Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 9:30 p.m. in Place Émilie-Gamelin.

Place au DOC! – Les soirées ONF takes a critical look at a society that examines itself through a variety of artistic, political and social forms of expression. The irresistible audacity of hip hop music features in Symphonie Locass, Socalled, le film and Les États-Unis d’Afrique. The latter film constitutes an ideal curtain raiser for the Didier Awadi show, taking place at the International Nuits d’Afrique Festival on July 20. There is a poetic dimension to the committed activism of Une force de la nature, Trou Story, Les Fros and Les porteurs d’espoir. As Wapikoni – Escale à Kitcisakik demonstrates, in addition to the important role of education and the environment in the future of a society, reflection on identity is also crucial. This screening coincides with the International Day of the World’s Indigenous People on August 9, 2012.Place au DOC! on a summer’s night! – Les soirées ONF
