Kuujjuaq, Québec, May 5, 2017 – The Kativik Regional Police Force (KRPF) in collaboration with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (A-CFSEU) and the Sûreté du Québec have conducted important marijuana seizures in Kuujjuaq.

On May 4, 2017, over 3 kilograms of marijuana were seized following the arrest of two individuals for possession for the purpose of trafficking. The suspects were arrested by the KRPF upon their arrival at the airport. Later the same day, an additional 2 kilograms were discovered after a search warrant had been obtained.

Both individuals have been interrogated and will remain detained until they are transferred to the Detention Centre in Amos to appear for a bail hearing next week.

The value of the KRPF seizures is approximately $230,000. The street value of marijuana is estimated to be $40 per gram.

ʺI would like to acknowledge the great cooperation between our committed officers and partners, which resulted in two significant seizures of drugs imported into the region. We will continue to work relentlessly to maintain peace and make our communities safer,ʺ stated Michel Martin, Chief of Police and Director of the Public Security Department of the Kativik Regional Government.
