Efforts to revitalize the Cayuga language have received a boost from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
Six Nations Polytechnic has received a $732,000 grant to help adults learn the Cayuga language.
The instruction will include up to 3,600 hours of immersion programming with those who can speak Cayuga. As well, the initiative will also produce a minimum of 500 hours of audio and visual material.
“To say we are excited is an understatement,” said Rebecca Jamieson, the president of Six Nations Polytechnic.
“Once launched, the project will be the most significant effort to stabilize the Cayuga language that our organization has ever initiated.
