Premier Sandy Silver and three of his Ministers met with members of the Special Senate Committee on the Arctic in Whitehorse today to outline the Government of Yukon’s priorities and present opportunities for strengthening northern communities.

Premier Sandy Silver, Minister of Economic Development and Energy, Mines and Resources Ranj Pillai, Minister of Community Services John Streicker and Minister of Tourism and Culture Jeanie Dendys, along with government officials, spoke on topics including: building healthy and sustainable communities; reconciliation with Yukon First Nations; developing the tourism and resource industries; and emphasizing the need for federal infrastructure funding to be flexible in order to fit Yukon’s circumstances.

The Senate committee members were in Whitehorse as part of a pan-northern fact-finding mission.

It is important for Yukoners to have a voice in federal government decisions affecting the North. I appreciate the members of the Special Senate Committee on the Arctic visiting Yukon to hear our vision for the future of the territory. Yukon’s robust economic position and the care we take as a government to support responsible development and foster strong relationships with Yukon First Nations demonstrates our approach to building strong, vibrant and healthy northern communities.

Premier Sandy Silver
