Premier Roland to Participate in 2009 Northern Premiers’ Forum

IQALUIT (September 2) — Premier Floyd Roland will travel to Iqaluit this weekend to participate in the annual Northern Premiers Forum.For Premier Roland, it will be an opportunity to meet with Premiers Fentie and Arriak on matters specific to northern residents and Canada’s North.

Premier Roland will lead discussions with his colleagues on Renewable Energy, Strategic Infrastructure Investment Fund and Arctic Scientific Research.

While in Iqaluit the Premiers are also expected to address: plans for a pan-territorial approach to promoting Canada’s North at the 2010 Vancouver Olympics; address opportunities presented by the planned participation in Canada’s delegation to the upcoming UN Climate Change Convention (COP-15) and a renewal of commitments outlined in the 2006 Northern cooperation Accord.

A news conference is planned for Saturday in Iqaluit.
