Premier welcomes new RCMP commanding officer
The following is a statement from Premier Wade MacLauchlan, minister of Justice and Public Safety and attorney general, on the selection of Jennifer Ebert as RCMP “L” Division commanding officer.
“With the cooperation of all Islanders, and with the hard work of our policing partners, Prince Edward Island is a safe and welcoming place to live, work, and play.
“On behalf of all Islanders, I congratulate Chief Superintendent Ebert on her promotion and appointment to RCMP “L” Division commanding officer and I look forward to her arrival in Prince Edward Island. I am proud to have the RCMP as a strong policing partner and I look forward to continuing this collaboration to ensure Islanders maintain a high degree of confidence in our police services and in our justice system.
“Chief Supt. Ebert will join police, municipal and provincial leadership working to implement key recommendations from the Crime Prevention and Police Services Review. Together, we are working to achieve cohesive, integrated, and effective crime prevention and policing services for Prince Edward Island. I look forward to her leadership in strategic intelligence-led crime prevention and integrated crime analysis.
“Ebert is currently officer in charge of the Major Crimes Branch at RCMP ‘F’ Division in Saskatchewan. She has specialized experience in assisting vulnerable children and victims of domestic violence and was the “F” division liaison to the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls Inquiry.
“I thank Assistant Commissioner Joanne Crampton once again for her service to Prince Edward Island as the “L” Division’s former chief superintendent. She played an important leadership role in our sense of community safety and worked diligently in areas such as crime prevention, community outreach, and protecting the most vulnerable in society.”
