Deputy Premier has Constructive Dialogue on many issues with Minister Carr, Mayor Bowman

Deputy Premier and Justice Minister Heather Stefanson participated in a trilateral meeting today with Natural Resources Minister Jim Carr and Winnipeg Mayor Brian Bowman to discuss shared priorities on a range of issues.

“Manitobans know the value of strong working relationships and our government is committed to building on our partnerships with the federal government and the City of Winnipeg,” said Stefanson.  “While my cabinet colleagues and I regularly meet with federal counterparts and municipal leadership, today was about holding an open and positive dialogue on shared priorities among all three levels of government.  We welcome opportunities to collaborate and work together on behalf of the people we all serve.”

Stefanson, Carr and Bowman discussed the North American Free Trade Agreement, Winnipeg’s vital role in growing the Manitoba economy, infrastructure priorities, environmental protection, and upcoming cannabis legalization.  They also discussed the need to collaborate on strategies to respond to the rise in methamphetamine use in Manitoba communities.

A federal-provincial meeting followed the initial meeting to discuss broader bilateral issues including climate change, clean energy, the town of Churchill and asylum seekers.
