Province Delivers New Mandate Letters to Crown Corporations

by ahnationtalk on April 30, 2019546 Views

New and updated mandate letters have been presented to the chairs of Manitoba’s five Crown corporations in accordance with The Crown Corporations Governance and Accountability Act (CCGAA), Crown Services Minister Colleen Mayer announced today.

“Mandate letters strengthen the transparency and accountability between government and Crown corporations, and ensure alignment on key issues,” Mayer said.  “Our government believes in making these documents available online so that Manitobans have a clear understanding of the relationship between government and the Crown corporations.”

The board of directors of Efficiency Manitoba Inc., The Manitoba Centennial Centre Corporation, Manitoba Hydro, Manitoba Liquor and Lotteries Corporation, and Manitoba Public Insurance Corporation received updated mandate letters.  New appointments have been made to these boards recently as part of the Manitoba government’s efforts to continue to refresh the agencies, boards and commissions of the province.

Mandate letters identify broader government priorities for all Crown corporations and provide specific direction to each corporation regarding initiatives and desired outcomes for them to achieve their individual mandates.

The CCGAA outlines a number of tools, including mandate letters, which help to clarify government’s expectations of Crown corporations while providing direction and support to them.
