Public engagement is now open on the Government of Yukon’s proposed approach for regulating off-road vehicle use in Yukon. The Government of Yukon is also consulting with Yukon First Nations and transboundary Indigenous groups on the development of this off-road vehicle regulation.

The proposed approach to regulation will provide an effective regime to prevent, reduce and mitigate the environmental impacts of off-road vehicle use on public land, while recognizing the needs of responsible off-road vehicle users.

Yukoners are invited to share their feedback on the proposed approach from February 8, to April 8, 2019 through

Yukoners have told us that regulating off-road vehicle use is needed to address environmental impacts related to increased use of off-road vehicles in the backcountry. Our government will work with all Yukoners to develop regulations that will protect the landscape and continue to allow people to use their off-road vehicles responsibly for work and recreation.

Minister of Energy, Mines and Resources Ranj Pillai
Quick Facts

  • The regulation of off-road vehicles under the current proposal would cover all-terrain vehicles such as quads, dune buggies, mini-bikes, dirt bikes and any motor vehicle that is being driven elsewhere than a highway, regardless of whether it is registered under the Motor Vehicles Act.
  • Consistent with the definition of “off-road vehicle” contained in Section 1 of the Territorial Lands (Yukon) Act, the regulation would not apply to snowmobiles.
