Researchers present health studies from May 2016 wildfires at forum – Fort McMurray Today

The health of students, firefighters and Indigenous communities following the May 2016 wildfires was the focus of a two-day research seminar at Shell Place.

The Friday and Saturday forum brought together seven research teams. The research focused on the health of pregnant women, students, Indigenous residents and communities, and firefighters.

The research projects were partially funded by the Canadian Institute of Health Research and the Canadian Red Cross.

“There’s still a lot more work to be done in terms of providing the services and programs that are available and the people who are here today are the people in positions that can make that happen,” said Stephanie Montesanti, one of the researchers and the event organizer.
