REGINA _ The opposition NDP continues to question the province’s decision to shut down STC.

The provincially owned bus line is slated to cease operations at the end of the month.

During question period on Wednesday, the NDP’s Doyle Vermette said the government has been too hasty on the issue.

He called on them to do something before the wheels on the bus stop going round and round.

Vermette is asking the government to perform a value-for-dollar audit to learn the true cost of losing STC.

Crown Investments Minister Joe Hargrave said STC is being closed down because ridership is down 35 per cent since 2012 and that since 2007, the subsidy has gone from $25 to $94 per ride.

He said the money being used to keep STC afloat could be better used in other areas.
