Saskatchewan Polytechnic celebrates graduates at Regina convocation

Faculty and staff, family and friends celebrate the perseverance, dedication and accomplishments of Regina campus students

June 20, 2019 – Tomorrow Saskatchewan Polytechnic will celebrate the accomplishments of graduates along with award recipients at the Regina campus convocation. Nearly 1,200 students have been invited to attend Regina convocation.

“Convocation is a major milestone in the life of any student,” says Dr. Larry Rosia, president and CEO. “While we are in a period of unprecedented change, brought on by new technologies and the changing nature of work, the opportunities that the future holds for the Class of 2019 are limitless. Our graduates have a well-deserved reputation for their strong work ethic, applied learning and problem-solving skills. These are qualities that will be in demand throughout their careers.”

Some graduates and community members will be recognized for outstanding achievements and contributions to the province.

Marissa Lawrence will be recognized with the Governor General’s Academic Bronze Medal for the highest average in the Regina campus Adult 12 program. Jennifer Hardebusch, Graphic Communications program graduate, will be recognized with the Governor General’s Academic Collegiate Bronze Medal.

Dustin Hunt, from the Early Childhood Education program, will receive the Student Outstanding Citizenship Award for inspiring and encouraging others to make positive changes.

Several years ago, Sask Polytech debuted the Faculty Award for Excellence: Teaching to recognize excellence in service and innovation from faculty. This year’s deserving recipients are Paula Mayer, Continuing Care Assistant program and Allison Hall, Saskatchewan Collaborative Bachelor of Science in Nursing Program.

Sask Polytech will award an honorary diploma to Murad Al-Katib, president, CEO and board member of AGT Food and Ingredients Inc. Murad founded AGT Foods in 2001, building the Canadian start-up into a global billion dollar value-added pulses, staple foods and ingredients company. Murad has been a passionate advocate of entrepreneurs, championing compassionate entrepreneurism, and working to expand female, youth and Indigenous participation in business start-ups, advocating the role of entrepreneurs in driving social change and innovation in the new global economy.
