SASKATOON _ Some voters in Saskatoon will be going to the polls to elect a new MLA in September.

Saskatchewan Premier Brad Wall called a byelection for the constituency of Saskatoon Fairview Friday.

Wall says voters will go to the polls Sept. 7 so they have an MLA in the fall.

The byelection is being held to replace Jennifer Campeau, the first Indigenous Saskatchewan MLA to become a cabinet minister under Wall.

Campeau was the Minister of Central Services and then served as legislative secretary for First Nations Student Achievement.

She announced her retirement in June after securing a job with mining company Rio Tinto in British Columbia.
