September 15, 2014
IQALUIT, Nunavut (September 15, 2014) – Nunavut school principals are meeting in Iqaluit this week to review the territory’s new standardized tools and resources.
“It is important that we establish best practices in our education system,” said Education Minister Paul Quassa. “Moving forward together using updated, standardized curriculum and resources will support consistent and relevant learning experiences for all Nunavut students.”
Principals are also getting updates on practices, procedures, safety guidelines and financial regulations from Kitikmeot, Kivalliq and Qikiqtani regional school operations staff.
The second half of the meetings is led by program consultants from Pearson Education Canada, developers of the assessment and literacy frameworks to be used in Nunavut, and by curriculum and school services staff. Principals will receive a comprehensive overview of the methods teachers use to conduct standardized assessments and support literacy development using guided reading, guided writing and word study.
The meetings wrap up Friday, September 19, 2014.
