Siksika Nation has declared a state of local emergency due to overland flooding.

“Overland flooding is impacting our communities and roads in various locations throughout the reserve,” a news release from the First Nation stated Monday.

“Siksika Nation is working to mitigate rising waters that are causing homes and public property to flood.”

Officials say several roads are washed out and remain impassable.

Lethbridge County also declared a state of local emergency Monday, and overland flood alerts were issued for various other regions, including Vulcan County, Forty Mile County, Willow Creek and the MD of Taber.
