Skwachays Healing Lodge Launch Event and Community Street Party Celebration

Delegates from the World Indigenous Housing Conference are invited to attend the opening and ceremonial blessing of a remarkable social and architectural achievement. Vancouver Native Housing Society is celebrating the completion of Skwachays Healing Lodge, a new affordable housing development and a healing centre that celebrates the artistic and cultural achievements of Aboriginal people, while supporting community members during times of medical and financial stress.

The event will include the official opening ceremony for Skwachays Healing Lodge, the unveiling of a 40.5 foot story pole, performances by Juno Award Winner Murray Porter, Wabanakwut Kinew, Love Medicine, Easter Sky Ambassadors, Tsatsu Stalqayu, Kalan Wi and M’Girl. There will also be a free feast, building tours and community booths. We hope you can join us for this special event!Date: Monday, June 11th 2012

Transportation details: Skwachays Healing Lodge, located at 31 West Pender St, Vancouver, is a 15 minute walk from the Hyatt Regency Hotel or a two stop trip on the Expo/Millennium Line Skytrain. Additional information will be available at the bus tour registration starting at 8:15 a.m. on Monday, June 11 at the hotel registration. Vancouver Native Housing Society staff will also lead a walking group from the Hyatt Regency Hotel to the event at 9:10 a.m. Please note: Between 8:30 a.m.-9:30 a.m. there will be a limited number of van shuttles between the Hyatt Regency Hotel to the event.
