Southern First Nations Secretariat – Sharing Tecumseh’s Vision of Unity, One Community at a Time

Moraviantown, ON – The Southern First Nations Secretariat and London District Chiefs Council are proud to announce the beginning of the awareness campaign for the Rekindling Tecumseh’s Vision Conference scheduled for October 2013. The awareness campaign will be lead by a Traditional Messenger.

Beginning Tuesday, December 11, 2012, Patricia Shawnoo, a descendant of Chief Tecumseh, will be fulfilling the role as the Traditional Messenger for the Southern First Nations Secretariat and will embark upon a five month journey across Turtle Island. As a Traditional Messenger, Ms. Shawnoo will be traveling to a number of Indigenous communities on Turtle Island to share Tecumseh’s vision of peace and unity. Ms. Shawnoo will also be personally speaking to and inviting all spiritual leaders to attend the conference.

Chairman of the London District Chiefs Council, Chief Greg Peters said “We are convinced that 2013 will be a turning point in the progression of Indigenous rights on Turtle Island. We hope the events taking place celebrate the life of Tecumseh in 2013 will contribute to the movement in a significant way.”

Executive Director, Mike George stated “We are proud to have Patricia Shawnoo as our traditional messenger on this awareness campaign and we know that she will showcase the same spirit and strength as Chief Tecumseh had during his rallying call to the First Nations people during the war of 1812.”

This campaign will help to create awareness and lead up to the Southern First Nations Secretariat’s Rekindling Tecumseh’s VisionConference. The conference is a seven day world Indigenous gathering, taking place September 29th through to the October 3rd, 2013. Indigenous Peoples from around the world are invited to the Delaware Nation where the conference will focus on the unity of Indigenous Peoples, Indigenous Reclamation and strengthening Indigenous Spirituality.
