Sport & Active Living Leadership for Aboriginal Youth living in BC

The Aboriginal Sports Recreation and Physical Activity Partners Council (Partners Council) is accepting applications from Aboriginal youth ages 14-24 living in BC (as of March 21, 2011) to attend our Sport & Active Living Leadership for Aboriginal Youth (S.A.L.L.) as part of Gathering Our Voices (G.O.V) Aboriginal Youth Conference, March 21-24, 2011 in Prince Rupert BC. A total of 18 youth will be selected to attend, with three youth selected from each of the 6 Partners Council Regions (North West, North East, Vancouver Coastal, Fraser, Interior, Vancouver Island). Two youth alternates per Region will also be identified.

There will be approximately 5.5 hours of S.A.L.L. specific workshops and 4.5 hours of general G.O.V. workshops that can be selected by each participant. Participants are also encouraged to attend the Career Fair, Cultural afternoon, Much Music Dance, and Youth Talent Showcase during their time at G.O.V.

Successful applicants will have airfare, accommodation, meals and GOV registration paid for by the Partners Council through the generous support of Legacies Now with the following notations:
• Flight departure location will be determined by the Partners Council
• Some travel related costs will be the responsibility of the participant
(eg. Travel from home to and from airport, meals during travel)
• Visit G.O.V. website found at end of this application for more information

Chaperones will be provided for those applicants age 14-17 years of age.

Accepted applicants are expected to commit to serving as a youth representative on their corresponding Partners Council regional committee for a minimum of1 year ending March 31, 2012.
