Standing Committee Announces Televised Hearing on the 2019 Report of the Auditor General of Canada to the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut

IQALUIT, Nunavut (September 10, 2019) – The Legislative Assembly’s Standing Committee on Oversight of Government Operations and Public Accounts will hold a televised hearing on the 2019 Report of the Auditor General of Canada to the Legislative Assembly of Nunavut on Support for High School Students and Adult Learners from September 25-26, 2019.

Senior officials from the Government of Nunavut’s Department of Education, Department of Family Services and Nunavut Arctic College will also appear as witnesses at the televised hearing.

“The standing committee’s televised hearing will provide an important opportunity for Members of the Legislative Assembly to examine the extent to which the Government of Nunavut is taking action to improve supports and remove barriers for youth and adult learners to transition from high school to post-secondary education and employment. The Auditor General’s audit report contains important recommendations and committee members look forward to new commitments and concrete actions from the government in response,” said Committee Chairperson John Main, MLA for Arviat North-Whale Cove.

The standing committee’s televised hearing will take place in the Chamber of the Legislative Assembly beginning at 1:30pm on September 25, 2019, and will be open for the public to observe from the Visitors’ Gallery. The hearing will be televised on local community cable stations and direct-to-home satellite service on the Bell (channel 513) and Shaw (channel 289 – classic / channel 489 – new lineup) networks. The hearing will also be live-streamed at: http://video.isilive.ca/nunavut/.
