Today, Greg Rickford, Minister of Indigenous Affairs issued the following statement in recognition of the annual Women’s Memorial March for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls:

“The annual Women’s Memorial March taking place across the country is an opportunity to reflect on the high rate of violence against Indigenous women and girls and to reaffirm our commitment to eliminate it.

Indigenous women and girls deserve to live in an environment that enables them to thrive. Tackling the systemic causes that put Indigenous women and girls at disproportionate risk of violence remains a top priority our government.

As we pursue our plan to build safe and healthy communities, we will continue to work with First Nations, Metis, Inuit and urban Indigenous organizations to address this critical issue.”
