Steven Fletcher Highlights $3 Million for Manitoba Health Research
WINNIPEG, April 5 – Steven Fletcher, MP for Charleswood-St. James-Assiniboia and Parliamentary Secretary for Health, on behalf of the Honourable Tony Clement, Minister of Health, accompanied by Dr. Harvey Chochinov, Member of the Governing Council for the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), announced today the recipients of an investment worth $3 million to fund health research in Manitoba.
“Promoting ground breaking health research is a crucial component of our government’s plan to build a healthy, prosperous and innovative Canada,” said Mr. Fletcher. “The funding highlighted today is helping to enhance the health research capabilities of the University of Manitoba, which will benefit all Canadians.” The 9 research projects funded will be conducted at the University of Manitoba. The studies will be carried out over periods of one to five years and cover a wide spectrum of health research. Mr. Fletcher highlighted researchers whose work exemplifies CIHR’s comprehensive, problem-based approach to funding health research:
