Whitehorse—The weekend’s pep rally for the 345 members of Team Yukon, parents, mission staff, and supporters was a resounding success.

“Team Yukon is ready for the 2012 Arctic Winter Games and is sure to build upon the excitement and energy displayed at the pep rally over the weekend,” Community Services Minister Elaine Taylor said. “I am extremely proud of our team and wish them the very best through the week ahead.”Taylor addressed Team Yukon at its pep rally on Saturday afternoon at the Yukon Arts Centre. Team Yukon’s cultural performers provided song and breakdancing demonstrations and energized the crowd with a cheer competition and other celebrations.

Team Yukon includes 271 athletes, 68 coaches, managers and mission staff and six cultural participants from across Yukon. They will join eight other teams representing Alaska, Northwest Territories, Alberta North, Nunavut, Greenland, Yamal, Nunavik Quebec and Sapmi.

“It is tremendous to see people from across our territory come together to support the Games,” Taylor said. “With more than 2,000 volunteers, sponsors and partners, the hard work of the host society, and the many individual efforts, this is sure to be the best-ever Arctic Winter Games. It’s going to be a great week.”

The Government of Yukon is proud to be a financial sponsor by contributing $1.4 million to the 2012 Arctic Winter Games.
